🚗 Engine and its problems

1. Increased oil consumption (oil burner) on FB25 engines

Symptoms:

Constant lack of oil

Smoke from the exhaust pipe

Extraneous noises in the engine

Causes and solutions:

✅ Wear of piston rings → replacement of pistons and rings (expensive, but effective)

✅ Coking of oil scraper rings → decoking of the engine

✅ Using the wrong oil → use oil with the recommended viscosity

2. Timing chain problems on FB25

Symptoms:

Metallic noise when starting

Errors in the phase sensor

Loss of engine power

Causes and solutions:

✅ Stretching of the chain → replacement of the chain and tensioners

✅ Wear of the phase shifters → replacement of the phase shifters (VVT)

3. Engine overheating

Symptoms:

Temperature above normal

Continuous drop in coolant level

Smoke or steam from under the hood

Causes and solutions:

✅ Leaking water pump → replacing the water pump

✅ Clogged radiator → cleaning or replacing

✅ Thermostat problems → replacing the thermostat

4. Generator failure

Symptoms:

Dim headlights

Quick battery discharge

Errors in the on-board network

Causes and solutions:

✅ Worn brushes and diode bridge → replacing the generator or repairing it

✅ Poor ground contact → cleaning and tightening the terminals

5. Problems with the fuse and relay box

Symptoms:

Windows, headlights, fans do not work

Blown fuses

✅ Oxidation contacts → cleaning contacts and treating with dielectric grease

Symptoms:

Jerking during acceleration

✅ CVT belt wear → belt replacement (expensive)

✅ Dirty oil → CVT oil and filter replacement

9. Humming in the transfer case and rear differential

Symptoms:

Noise and vibrations in the rear

Extraneous sounds at speed

Causes and solutions:

✅ Insufficient oil in the gearbox → top up or replace oil

✅ Bearing wear → replace differential bearings
