1. Engine
🔧 Increased oil consumption (relevant for EJ20, EJ255, EJ257)
Turbocharged WRX and WRX STI engines (EJ255, EJ257) are prone to oil burnout.
Cause: design features of piston rings.
Solution: check oil level, replace piston rings if necessary.
🔧 Timing belt problems (relevant for EJ20, EJ255, EJ257)
The timing belt requires replacement every 90,000–100,000 km.
If it breaks, the valves may be bent.
Solution: timely replacement of the timing belt and rollers.
🔧 Engine overheating (especially for EJ255, EJ257)
Reason: coolant leak due to weak cylinder head gaskets.
Solution: replace cylinder head gaskets with reinforced versions.
🔧 Chain tensioner rattle (relevant for FB16, FB20)
A weak hydraulic timing chain tensioner can cause noise when starting.
Solution: replace the tensioner.
2. Transmission
🔧 Weak clutch (WRX, WRX STI)
With aggressive driving, the clutch wears out quickly.
Solution: install a reinforced clutch kit.
🔧 Automatic transmission problems (4AT)
Long-lasting, but sometimes jerks when shifting.
Solution: change ATF oil, adapt the box.
3. Suspension
🔧 Knocking front struts
Over time, the original shock absorbers (especially Kayaba) begin to knock.
Solution: replace with high-quality analogs (KYB Excel-G, Bilstein).
🔧 Worn out silent blocks of front levers
Leads to poor handling and knocking.
Solution: replace silent blocks with polyurethane or reinforced rubber ones.
4. Body and Electrics
🔧 Body corrosion (especially thresholds and arches)
The problem is typical for northern regions.
Solution: anti-corrosion treatment.
🔧 Failure of oxygen sensors (lambda probe)
Often found on EJ20, EJ255, EJ257 engines.
Solution: replace sensors.
🔧 Burnt out bulbs in headlights and dashboard
Reason: weak wiring.
Solution: replace bulbs and check ground.
