Subaru Impreza Typical Problems

Engine and technical problems:

Increased oil consumption – typical for some models, especially with aggressive driving.

Engine overheating – possible due to problems with the radiator, thermostat or cylinder head gaskets.

Cylinder head gasket leak – a common problem for EJ20 and EJ25, manifested by oil or coolant leakage.

Catalytic converter failure – can become clogged, especially when using low-quality fuel.

Timing belt tensioner failure – can lead to problems with the belt and valves.

Transmission:

Clutch wear – especially on WRX and STI with active driving.

Differential problems – front and rear can make noise or jam if not serviced in a timely manner.

Weak gearbox (on WRX 5MT) – under heavy load, 2nd gear can fail.

Electrics and wiring:

Problems with electric windows – possible jamming or failure.

Failure of ABS sensors – manifests itself in errors on the dashboard.

Burnout of low beam lamps – a fairly common problem associated with the load on the lighting system.

Body and suspension:

Corrosion – especially thresholds, arches and the bottom in regions with an aggressive winter environment.

Knocking in the suspension – possible due to wear of the stabilizer struts and shock absorber support bearings.

Weak rear silent blocks of the front levers – quickly fail.
